Starting the Junior Great Race with a Bang
Sunday, Sept. 19
Beginning at Noon
The 15th annual Junior Great Race will literally begin with a bang this year as costumed reenactors from the Fort Pitt Museum provide a volley of musket fire to start the race.
Each year participants in the Junior Great Race run in the footsteps of history on a course where the largest fortification in North America once stood. The Fort Pitt Museum, located across the Portal Bridge in Point State Park, is excited to partner with the Junior Great Race to tell the story of this historic race course.
In recognition of all the junior racers, the Fort Pitt Museum will be offering free admission on race day to all youth under the age of 17 when accompanied by a paying adult.
Costumed reenactors from the museum will serve as course marshals for the race and will be on hand to talk about aspects of 18th century living.
Come design your own fort at our Fort Pitt activity table and test your scavenging skills, in the park, with the Fort Pitt scavenger hunt. Bring your camera, and be ready to pose with a cannon! Hats and child-friendly muskets will be available to complete the picture. See you at the finish line!
